Please join the San Mateo Union High School District Board of Trustees at a Special Study Session to discuss the issue of staff housing.
Thursday, January 24, 2019 6 p.m. at the San Mateo Adult School 789 East Poplar, San Mateo
One of the greatest challenges for our employees is the high cost of housing in the Bay Area. As part of the District’s 2018-2019 goals, we are exploring staff housing. We view affordable housing as being necessary for a good quality of life, and we are uniquely positioned to face this challenge head on.
Please join us to hear the latest update and comment! More information is available on the District’s website.
Please contact Laura Chalkley, Manager of Communications with questions at lchalkley@smuhsd.org.
The 2019 HANCSM Delaware Block Cleanup and Garden Project was a great success with 46 volunteers coming out to lend a hand with trash pickup and planting a community garden. A big THANK YOU to all the neighbors who volunteered 78 service hours. A special thanks for the support from the City of San Mateo and ACE/Hassett Hardware!
Neighbors took to N. Delaware, Tilton, Cypress, 1st Ave, 2nd Ave, and Fremont streets to pick-up litter and clean up the sidewalks. Over the two hours of the event, volunteers filled a truck-load of trash and recycling and a full bin of compostable green/brown waste from the garden. There was a competition to see who could pick up the most cigarette butts – our winner collected over 6 ounces and won a $10 gift card from ACE/Hassett Hardware!
Across the street from Ace/Hassett Hardware on 1st and Delaware the volunteers planted a native garden and truly beautified the street with their hard work. Some of the biggest helpers had the smallest hands, special thanks our friends from the San Mateo Adult School! It was wonderful to see everyone digging in the dirt together. Many worms and beetles were saved in the process!
We are so grateful to live in a community that comes together on days like these. The support from the neighborhood was inspiring.
The dedicated city staff also have our biggest thanks. We couldn’t have had such a successful event without the support of the Office of City Manager and Public Works.
Lastly, a big hooray goes out to everyone at Ace/Hassett Hardware who came out. Jacqueline Fenton, ACE Regional Manager, jumped at the chance to partner with HANCSM to support this event. Lisa Ratusz played a huge part in the garden project, sourcing plants and lending her gardening knowledge.
