Join me (Esme Cabrera) on an urban tree walk through the most diverse (human and natural) and historic area of San Mateo. Our walk will follow the surrounding areas of the year-long freshwater San Mateo Creek, ancestral homelands of the Salson Ohlone and fateful meeting place between indigenous people, the Spanish and then Europeans. We will identify native, historic trees of about 4 blocks as well as talk about the most ethnically diverse area (historic redlining) of San Mateo and its role in shaping local cultural diversity and activism. We may be joined by multiple neighborhood residents and/or ecological experts who also have a wealth of knowledge of POC history or natural features of the area.

We will be walking a total of about 6-8 blocks, no inclines. Wear hats/sunscreen, bring water and comfy shoes (or chanclas, you do you boo.)

Afterward, whoever wants to can lunch at any of the local mom and pop pupuserias, cevicherias, or taquerias in the neighboring Latino business district of nearby B st (also a place with a long history of businesses run by POC).
