In April 2018, the City of San Mateo selected MidPen Housing to redevelop two adjacent lots at 480 E. 4th Avenue and 400 E. 5th Avenue – the parking lots off 4th and 5th between Railroad and Claremont.
MidPen proposes building 164 affordable rental homes for families on one lot and a 699-stall parking garage on the other. The proposed development will provide affordable homes in a downtown setting and a garage that will more than double existing public parking on the current lots. The proposed development also includes a community-serving space on the ground floor of the parking garage.
