Dear Friend of San Mateo,

A huge THANK YOU for your dedication to help San Mateo win the 2103 Rand McNally Best Small Town – For Food competition!

#1 COMPETITION UPDATE
Ranking: We are in SECOND Place with 683 votes (as of this email). 1st is Walla Walla, WA (772) – UGH!!!, 3rd Roseville, MN (325), 4th Galesburg, IL (229), 5th Charlottesville, VA (160).
What’s Next: The top 5 in each category will be considered “Finalists” on Sept. 3rd, which we expect to be. Then, from mid to late September, we need to prove to the judges why we should be the winner. Our organizing team has been preparing for this, and are ready to blow the socks off of the judges to secure the win. Winners will be announced on October 7th, and we will receive a feature in the 2015 Rand McNally Road Atlas, a free custom iPhone app and online travel guide promoting San Mateo, a party, and big time bragging rights! J More to come. KEEP VOTING until Sept 3 (you can vote 1x per day) to help us get to #1.

#3 WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Some of you may ask why Economic Development is doing this… I mean, yes, the competition and Dishcrawl are fun and exciting activities, but how are they an Economic Development activity? The purpose of our ED Division is to retain and attract investment ($$) into the city of San Mateo in order to provide quality services to the residents, businesses and visitors of the city. Both of these activities have direct and indirect impacts to our revenue streams and help market San Mateo nationwide as a special “place to be.” So much more I could say here, that’s enough for this email. Be assured that every activity ED organizes has real and measurable impacts, and hopefully we can have some fun along the way. 😉 Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for all who are voting, working with ED and thinking BIG!
