I’ve gotten a few questions about what’s going on with the construction at the College Park Elementary School, especially about all that dirt they’ve brought in. I spoke to Alex Kristal, the SMFCSD’s project manager. He told me that since some of the new construction is in the 100 year flood plain they need to raise the buildings in that area above flood level, in some cases as much as 3 feet. So they’ll be spreading out that dirt across the site.
I was surprised to find that that area was in the 100 year flood plain and went to look it up on the FEMA website. Here’s the link to FEMA’s map site here
